September 15th marked the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. This tradition began in 1968, as “Hispanic Heritage Week” and was expanded into a month-long, national celebration in 1988. The timing of this celebration is particularly significant as it coincides with the days of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile.
With over 42 million Spanish speakers in the United States, Spanish is the second most popular language in the country. This month is a chance for all Americans to celebrate the diverse Hispanic heritages and traditions that form an integral part of our national culture.
